How do I create a new inspection rule?

The work rules registry is located in Settings / Work rules

Work rules list

There are two kinds of rules—for inspections or for work requests. Press the "+ New rule" button in the work rules list to open a menu where you choose "Inspection rule".

New work rule type selection

Fill in the required rule name attribute. The name should reflect the purpose of the rule so it is easier to identify in the work rules list.

Work rule name

Assigned To section

You need to decide whether the assignee for inspections covered by this rule will be a team or a user (person).

First, set the switch to "Team". A team picker appears. Either choose an existing team or create a new one using the "+ Add new" button below the picker. After pressing it, a new dialog for creating a team appears. When you fill in the new team and save, you return to the rule form and the new team is already selected.

Work rule team selection

In the team entry window, I entered a new team named "Electricians", which is already selected after confirmation.

Work rule new team created

If a team is specified for the rule, the inspection assignee will be the team's default worker. However, all team members can receive a notification about the assigned inspection, and any of them can complete it.

The second option is to select a worker directly from users. Set the switch to "Worker". A user picker appears.

Work rule user selection

Location refinement section

Here you can specify which localities the rule applies to. If you need to define scope below the locality level, you can use asset groups. As with the assignee, there is a switch here (by localities vs. by asset groups).

Work rule location scope

You can select multiple localities or asset groups. You cannot combine asset groups and localities. Using the "+ Connect localities" or "+ Connect asset groups" button opens a dialog with a list of localities or asset groups where you can use advanced filters. The "- Remove all" button clears the selection of all chosen records.

If I have two rules and one applies to a locality and the other to an asset group within that locality, the rule for the asset group takes precedence because it is more specific. A rule for a locality is more general.

Inspections section

Here you can further limit the rule to specific inspection types. Different inspection areas are handled by different inspection technicians. You can also limit by location—for example, create an asset group for pressure vessels and leave the choice as "all inspections" instead of listing every inspection type for pressure equipment. This rule then simply states that all inspections for assets in the pressure vessel group are handled by an inspection technician or team from company XY.

Work rule inspection types

You can use the switch to specify whether the rule should consider inspection types or apply regardless of inspection type.

If I have two rules and one covers all inspection types and the other specifies an inspection type, the more specific rule (with a defined inspection type) takes precedence.
